(Will be updated more soon)
Who is Mack Productions?
Mack Productions is a 19 year old student, Dan MacKenzie (me). I make all the animations and shorts you see here. I also have worked on various other work, such as claymation for Minivegas' music video for the artist Daniel Johnston.
How do you make these bad boys?
It is called "stop-motion animation." To but it simply, what i do is take digital snapshots of the scene of capture, then I move what I want moved a small amount, and then take another digital snapshot. I continue this until I fill the movement I need. Then these images are run together at a high speed, mostly 15 - 24 frames per second, to create the illusion of movement.
What kind of clay do you use?
I use many different kinds of clay. None is the single best, because each can be used for different things.
My most used clay is "Van Aken" Modeling clay, also known as "Claytoon" clay. This is good for more details in sculpting.
My other main clay used is "Sculpey III" oven bake clay. This clay is soft and smooth, and gives you the ability to bake it if you need a sculpture hardened. This is good for morphing, creating abstract shapes.
For "Winter Attack," I used a cheaper clay, "Plastalina" modeling clay for all the snow.
What kind of camera do you use?
Currently, I use a Sony Mini-DV Handycam camcorder connected to my computer with a firewire cable.
What kind of wire do you use for the insides of the characters?
I have used some different kinds. Honestly, any thin wire has proven to work for me. I've even used electrical wire. Keep it thin wire and it should work fine.
